The organizers behind the prestigious Mercury Prize have announced the nominations for this year’s award. The 12 albums were all released in the last year by British and Irish artists. The list includes:

Bat For Lashes – ‘Two Suns’
Florence And The Machine – ‘Lungs’
Friendly Fires – ‘Friendly Fires’
Glasvegas – ‘Glasvegas’
The Horrors – ‘Primary Colours’
La Roux – ‘La Roux’
Led Bib – ‘Sensible Shoes’
The Leisure Society – ‘Sleeper’
Lisa Hannigan – ‘Sea Saw
Kasabian – ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’
Speech Debelle – ‘Speech Therapy’
Sweet Billy Pilgrim – ‘Twice Born Men’

It’s interesting to note how many of the albums feature the name of the artist, no?

  1. 3 1/2 of them do and since most are debut albums, that’s not unusual. Actually I’m just using this as a pulpit to evangelize for Florence and the Machine, I wish she’d play in New York, she killed it at Glastonbury (man).
