MoMA’s P.S.1 Courtyard ‘Afterparty’

MoMA’s P.S.1 Courtyard ‘Afterparty’

By Nicko Margolies on July 31, 2009

The Afterparty is the latest project from MOS architects, Hillary Sample and Michael Meredith.  It is the latest installation at the Museum of Modern Art’s P.S.1 in Queens and is made completely of recycled aluminum with a palm thatch covering.  The domes and basic arches are meant to cool the courtyard through the stack effect and utilizes a more primitive state of architecture.

In a brief video discussion with visitors (view below), one commented on the unique interior view compared to the rough outside and another felt it was something out of Planet of the Apes.  Either way, the unique environment provides a relaxing and cool venue for those cycling through the P.S.1 courtyard during the hot summer.
