Secret Underground Rock Climbing Speakeasy

These are the remaining images from an article posted by the New York Times (later taken down) that uncovered a different kind of speakeasy in Brooklyn, New York. In the deleted piece, a writer explored an underground rock climbing club hidden in a basement below Fort Greene. Reportedly, the space has been open in one form or another for 20 years. The secret spot is different than most artificial climbing walls – here they are only 12 feet high, whereas normally they can go 40 feet or higher. Though rugged and less safe than a regular climbing wall, the unique challenges of the space, and the casual, convivial environment attracts a diverse crowd of hardcore climbers.

Also noteable is that the Times tried to make the article go away after negative feedback – but due to the Streisand Effect, this only helped spread the story.
