Surface Film Examines the View from Below

Surface Film is an experimental project from students at the Parsons School for Design which examines the life of a city through an underground perspective looking up at a semi-permeable surface.  The thesis project required an elaborate filming stage and creates perfectly unique cinematography for the shooting perspective.  The project’s website describes the film,

This ‘urban symphony’ transforms human actions and street objects into beats that harmoniously compose a grand audio and visual composition. The film emphasizes the ideas of ‘point of contact’, ‘human identity’ and notion of ‘live footprints’.

The director now does freelance motion graphics and it will be great to see what other projects develop from these imaginative roots.  Check out the making-of here and the final film below:
