Will The iPod Touch Become Your Homephone?

Wired UK carries gossip that the next iteration of the iPod Touch will carry a camera and microphone. As I read it I notice the cordless phone on my table an old iPod connected to the kitchen radio. These older iPods are becoming our at-home flick-of-a-switch entertainment systems that have replaced our music systems and CD stacks. Meanwhile the phone is a piece of technology that hasn’t evolved in years – even though it connects to a Vonage box. So I’m left wondering, if the iPod gets a microphone and I load Skype then why can’t it sit in a dock and become my in-home phone plus it can manage my entertainment, tell the time and, hey, let me check what the weather’s going to be like today.

Just a thought.
