Community Grows Around the Extreme Pogo Stick
After about 90 years of existence the traditional schoolyard pogo stick has matured, adding a slightly dangerous twist to the sport. Using heavy duty rubber bands the Flybar 1200 propels riders up to to five feet into the air making the desire to leap over minivans, grind rails, and do back flips entirely possible.
This extreme pogo stick has been around for close to a decade, and The Wall Street Journal reports that a small but vibrant community is developing around it. Pogopalooza has contestants competing in events such as the fewest jumps per minute and biggest air. The web has allowed for extreme pogoers scattered across the country to organize these events, xpogo.com being a primary website used for sharing video, photos, ideas, and trick instruction.
