Heathrow Airport’s Driverless Taxis

Heathrow Airport’s Driverless Taxis

By Paloma M. Vazquez on August 19, 2009

Heathrow Airport is rolling out the UK’s first ULTra – Urban Light Transport – Personal Pod cars.  First announced two years ago, this energy-efficient, battery powered and fully automated system can be summoned on demand and will transport up to four passengers and their luggage between Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and its business car parks – sans driver.  They will run up to 25mph on a special road network.  Energy efficient and attractive, we expect to see more applications for this technology as a transportation solution in urban metropolitan areas.
