"Leaf" Phone Runs On Solar Power, Doubles As Wristwatch

As cellphones continue to evolve, we’ve almost become desensitized to the growing list of perks that come with each new model, perhaps losing sight of the fact that simpler forms of technology are not always archaic ones.

The Leaf is a cellphone concept that runs on solar power or electricity, and is made from layers of flexible material that enable it to transform into a bracelet/wristwatch for portability.

Although you can’t perform all of your daily tasks with it (it only has basic calling/texting capabilities), it’s an eco-friendly idea that sees forward-thinking technology mingling with simplicity.

  1. When and where and how much? I wann be the first “Dick Tracy” on my block :)

  2. I’m afraid it doesn’t actually have any capabilities. This is yet another Yanko Design project that has zero credibility. No one is even considering manufacturing it, because it isn’t a real concept. It’s a way for a couple product designers (who may have actual industry experience) to say “Look at this cool design we made, could you hire us please?” Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but posting random people’s concepts like this as actual indicators of the future is misleading. There is no research behind it; these guys are designers, not engineers. They could just as well be claiming that it allows you to travel through time.

  3. PS: Sorry, I know this is like my third one of these comments in a row, but I can’t help it; I love futurism, so it’s hard for me to see predictions with no credibility like this being presented as genuine, especially on what is otherwise a very professional and well-written blog.
