The Thing [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

The Thing
The Thing is a legendary thrift shop in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn that’s known for two things: its huge selection, and the chaotic state that the store is in. Every possible inch of space is crammed with lots and lots of stuff (this is not a clean, curated space). Shoppers at The Thing must dive in with a sense of adventure and not be afraid to get dirty while looking for cheap treasures. Upstairs houses The Thing’s massive collection of random secondhand merchandise, including an epic selection of used books. But what the insiders go for is the vinyl. Thousands of records of every musical style fill part of the upper floor, and the basement holds some 130,000 or more pieces of dusty, unsorted vinyl. And the best part: all discs are a mere $2.00 each.

1001 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn

The Thing is featured in our latest book PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn. From the more obscure corners of the borough to just off the G train, we’ve gathered over 40 of the most inspiring shops, restaurants, galleries, venues, movements and happenings from around the diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York.
