Siemens Partners With Orange County Choppers To Build An Electric Motorcycle

Siemens has paired up with Orange County Choppers, the custom bike building outfit of TV fame, to build a one-off electric chopper.  The “Smart Chopper” showcases Siemens technology, boasting a 60-mile range and a 100 mph top speed compliments of a 27-hp electric motor.  Charging time is anywhere between 1 and 5 hours depending on the voltage available.  In addition to leveraging Siemens electric technology, the bike also features LED lights compliments of Sylvania, a Siemens subsidiary.  The bike has OCC’s characteristic flair, the least of which is a rear tire that wouldn’t look out of place on a car.  The Smart Chopper will be making its way around the country for the balance of 2009 and is slated for auction in 2010.

  1. Great. Now let’s build a real one at an accessible price instead of a custom-made PR vehicle for Siemens and OCC.

  2. I hate stuff like this; something I would love to have, but aren’t commercially available or anywhere near affordable.

  3. Obviously, this is just a showcase for Siemens. There are a number of really cool electric bikes out there that you can buy (although, some of them are pricey). I would argue that they are atually cooler, in that they have better performance specs and are more usable. Check out Brammo.com, zeromotorycles.com, and ridemission.com and thanks for the comments…

  4. You guys seem pretty negative. Why don’t you think about the innovation and the craftmanship. Also, in 2010, the motorcycle will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to a charitable cause that will help benefit the environment. I know I will be watching the episode on October 22nd. In the mean time, check out the twitter, it has some interesting information that you should look into:

  5. This is an amazing chopper! It is made from recycled materials, has advanced DC Motors, LED lighting,27 Peak horsepower, and a range of 60 miles on a single charge. Siemens and American Chopper have both outdone themselves here.
