Vintage Quality Levi’s Returning To Stores

Vintage Quality Levi’s Returning To Stores

By Laura Feinstein on August 13, 2009

I don’t think it’s a stretch of the imagination to say that vintage Levi’s are the stuff fashion dreams are made of. The iconic brand ( which is so internationally popular that during the heyday of communism, a pair could trade for about anything you could want in Eastern Europe) has been on the behinds of everyone from movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean to former and current US Presidents.

However, up until recently it was next to impossible to find good condition vintage (pre-1980′s) Levi’s without going overseas to clothing depots in Japan and Europe. This is all about to change, as Levi’s has recently formed an offshoot  group called “XX” (meaning “extra strong”) to consolidate the company’s premium businesses. This new division will be led by the  Maurizio Donadi, who is a veteran of both Diesel and RRL. The wears will be produced to exact historical specifications, in essence becoming  new vintage jeans. In addition to jeans, XX will also be pulling other select Levi’s garments from the vaults for replication.

Available for download on the A Continuous Lean website is a complete timeline (in pdf form) of the many incarnations and alterations these timeless jeans have undergone over the years.
