Blogger Illustrates Life

By Laura Feinstein on September 4, 2009

It seems nowadays  every “fashionista” and artist has a blog where they talk about their work, but how many artists can say they have blogs where they actually turn their life into art? The Unknown Hipster, the “suave, globetrotting alter ego of French illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomme” recently illustrated several blog entries in what appears to be colored pencil. In the era of facebook, myspace, and twitter it’s truly a breathe of fresh air to see someone post elegantly crafted art instead of the usual party pics. His art is in some way similar to that of Charlotte Salomon, a young German woman in exile during World War II who decided to illustrate her life in an epic watercolor and gauche book entitled Leben? Oder theater? (Life? or Theater) which even today is highly regarded as both a great work of art and imaginative story telling. One can only hope this might signal a trend towards beautiful hand-drawn illustrations over staid pictorials.
