James May Builds a House with Lego Bricks

By Dave Pinter on September 1, 2009

BBC TV presenter James May, most famously known as ‘Captain Slow’ on Top Gear has been at work on a new series called Toy Stories that will air in UK on BBC2 this autumn. The idea for the show is to feature iconic toys in an extreme way. May is currently working on building an entire house out of Lego bricks for an upcoming episode.

The house is constructed of larger Lego blocks containing 272 individual pieces. To finish the house, over three million bricks are needed which totals about 816 million Legos. The house will have a working bathroom.

May has already made other attempts and has set a world record with toys for the show. Earlier in the summer May and his team constructed the worlds longest Scalextric slot car track around the old Brooklands race circuit in the UK. He also attempted to build the worlds longest model train railway, stretching 10 miles from Barnstaple to Bideford,  in north Devon. Vandals disrupted the project by dropping two pence pieces onto the track. The scale locomotive made it 7 miles before the electronics quit.
