(Pic) Too Wasteful To Sweep

The image shows a super using a hose to rid the sidewalk outside his New York apartment of fallen leaves. Washing down the sidewalk happens daily in New York but sometimes the hose is used without concern for waste. This task would surely be completed quicker and with less wasted water if the guy had just used a broom.

While many of us try to watch the impact we have on the planet, our landlords and our office-owners continue to neglect our environmental concerns.

  1. I rented apartment in Paris, Vienna (austria) and New York now….it’s the first time I don’t have to pay a separate bill for water and heat. People are encouraged to waste water as they don’t receive a bill for the quantity of water wasted….and super have no pressure from the renters to waste less water….The only way for some people to watch the impact they have is to make them pay for their waste

  2. ha. I had to sweep my drive for the first time last autumn, and I was dripping with sweat by the end of it. Good work out (and boy do I need it).

Still, if he swept, perhaps he would need to replace all that energy by eating and drinking foods that had to be flown from wherever, using tons of packaging and cooking etc…

It may actually be less wasteful to use a bit of water (which ends up in the same place anyway, the water doesn’t care).

As usual when I comment here I don’t know what I’m talking about but it’s just a thought…
