Starbucks iPhone App Enables Payment by Phone

iPhone-Enabled Starbucks Fix

Starbucks has introduced two new iPhone applications, one of which will allow customers to order and pay for their coffee right from their phone.

The myStarbucks application is usable anywhere.  It allows users to store recipes for their favorite drinks and share it with others. When racked with indecision, a flavor selector can help choose a coffee based on flavors like earthy, balanced or nutty. It can also be used to look up nutritional information, or the location of stores by amenities (such as a changing station).

The Starbucks card mobile application is being tested at select stores in Seattle and California. It functions like a regular Starbucks card, in that you buy credit then use it against your orders. When you want to buy a drink, your screen will show a barcode after turning on the app. The store will scan the barcode and the dollar value of the drink will be subtracted from your purchased credit.

  1. Great! Now if they could only build an app to get me into the store, that would be killer.

No, seriously, this is great for the market. Hopefully this moves the others towards more innovative/streamlined methods on pervasive technology.
