Youth Music Box Acts As Training Wheels For Future Musicians
Not only is there change happening in the business of music, it’s also present in its education. Silent Studio’s Youth Music Box is a fully interactive musical sandbox where up to four or five people can perform using instruments like keyboards, drums, and a DJ style interface.
Once a genre is chosen the software does its part to guide the notes being played into pleasurable music. This works similarly to Brian Eno’s iPhone app where the idea is to create an interactive experience where little technical knowledge of music is necessary.
While this may seem hazardous to the likelihood of someone actually picking up a traditional instrument the project was created because it indeed inspires it. The Music Box and games like Guitar Hero have been proven to create “real” musicians out of people.
Create Digital Music explains:
Research commissioned by Youth Music found that up to 2.5 million young people in the UK – or 1 million aged between 12 and 18 – have been inspired to progress into ‘real’ music-making because they have played music-based console games.
