Gross National Happiness Index – a new application from Facebook, can track global highs and lows from aggregating key words within user status updates. Launched on Monday, the application measures how “well-off, happy or satisfied with life” US citizens are. GNHI provides a number of information filters: ‘Positivity’, ‘Negativity’ and the ‘Gross National Happiness’ – (difference between the Positivity and Negativity data).
At the moment the application only monitors US users, but has the potential to monitor global highs and lows. Facebook has pointed out that as membership grows, Positivity and Negativity numbers will slip over time, to account for user variability – this is why the Gross National Happiness Index filter offers greater insight.
