(Event) Hands On From the Launch of Motorola's DROID

By Kyle Studstill on November 2, 2009

Last week PSFK was able to get hands on with Motorola’s DROID at a launch party held in anticipation of the phone’s release this Friday. As the Google’s Android platform continues to build momentum, the DROID appears poised to challenge the iPhone’s reign by bringing more than just a list of features to the table – the device boasts a remarkably smooth interface as well.

While on first glance the tightly packed keyboard has left some people wondering whether they’d use anything but the DROID’s touchscreen, the phone features a number of intuitively placed navigation buttons that make maneuvering through the menus a pleasurable task.

There are a handful of other small details we were taken by, including the dead simple Google Maps directions and the impressive video camera – the DROID’s prize feature. While the conversation from the event indicated that the DROID may not be the right phone for everyone, it is certainly generating a great deal of buzz among the devoted group of Android converts, and is sure to impress newcomers to the smartphone market.
