The fragrance industry has had a pretty tough year with the sector witnessing an 11% decline in sales year on year. In the face of this, some smaller artisanal producers are looking for alternative ways to connect with customers beyond scent.

Last weekend, we came across the Six Scents range of fragrances at the Reward store in Philadelphia. In collaboration with Givaudan, the Seven fashion boutique in New York created the Six Scents Series. Each bottle comes with a DVD that contains a film and photography that tells a story around the theme of each fragrance.

Grossmith is a fragrance originally founded in 1865 that even was worn by Queen Victoria. The brand didn’t do so well in the twentieth century and finally stopped selling around 30 years ago. The great great grandson of the founder relaunched the perfume recently with an updated bottle (above) that took subtle cues from bottles it used to come in.

Frangrance by German designer Alexa Lixfeld comes with a rather unique top: each of the three perfumes comes with a different concrete-block lid. We’re not too sure why, but they certainly are eye catching.
