Korean Researchers Building A Walking Robot To Transport Humans

By Aziz Ali on December 11, 2009

The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a research company specializing in humanoid robots, is developing a walking robot that resembles something out of Star Wars.

They robot is called HUBO FX-1, and is essentially a chair that is supported by a pair of robot legs. The robot weights 150 kg and a video of HUBO FX-1 reveals that it’s fairly slow and clunky, but KAIST is working on developing its responsiveness and fluidity of its movements so that it may climb stairs and lift heavy objects.

KAIST’s website states that the robot was built to transport elderly people, be utilized in industrial contexts, and also assist in disaster areas.
