Move Over Neverland – Come Fly In New Zealand

It seems bungee jumping and jet-boat riding no longer satisfies the constant craving New Zealander’s endure for adrenaline. Recognising this, a Christchurch inventor, Glenn Martin, has created the Martin Jetpack – an innovation that is moving the realms of travel into a higher stratosphere. Although not quite the glamorous, compact device envisaged by Hollywood, the Martin Jetpack is designed to be the worlds easiest to manoeuvre aircraft and is capable of up to 30 minutes of flight. A simple $10,000 deposit is all it takes to ensure a slice of future travel valued at $100,000 – and this price tag has certainly not deterred interest from military, border patrol and search and rescue groups from around the world.

Dreaming To Be Different….

Wellington’s International Airport will create a unique and memorable visitor experience. Craving not to become a bland hall that typifies most international airports, its bold and dramatic design certainly is a contrast. Lead architect and project spokesmen said the inspiration for the rock was to counterpoint the trend with overseas terminals that have a lot of glass and a focus on flight.

Almost half of the respondents to a poll believed the design was”hideous, truly hideous” but as the Wellington Mayor said.. “at least they’re talking about it”.

Transforming a 2D world into 3D

A small Dunedin-based company has declared an alternative method of rendering computer graphics. Areograph technology allegedly jumps 10 years ahead in visual capability to perfect realism, whilst reducing the costs of content creation. Areograph capture is an alternative to ‘building’ a simulation – instead combining thousands of photographs to present a fluid and realistic replication of a scene. It is up-and-coming in such applications as military location, mapping, security location mapping, video games and training simulation.

“Cordon Bleu for Cows”

In the bovine world, cows are now able to eat food designed especially for them.

Seales Limited understands that on-farm conditions can change quite rapidly and dramatically which will affect a herd’s need. By being able to cater for any situation, it can facilitate significant improvements to the cow’s health, condition, production, conception rates, reduce their health costs, and most importantly of all, increase a farmer’s profitability.

Will cows soon be offered dessert?

Rocket Lab takes off…

The first privately built rocket launched from the Southern Hemisphere has reached space. The 18-foot rocket raced into the sky, 120 kilometres into space, carrying not only scientific equipment but also some unusual content like a USB stick containing the entire Kiwi Maps database. Kiwi Maps, hoping to now hold the record for being the first company to have their maps in space.

Manu Korere – which translates as bird messenger – weighs less than 150 pounds, generating the equivalent of 3200 horsepower from an engine weighing just 13kg. It also has achieved a genuine environmental breakthrough as the emissions from this engine are non-toxic as opposed to the traditional launch platforms.
