Susan Boyle Does A Snoop Dogg

By Piers Fawkes on December 4, 2009

YouTube star Susan Boyle has recorded the best debut of an album since Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle album in 1993. With 701,000 copies of I Dreamed A Dream selling in the first week in the US, it’s an interesting sign of people’s developing relationship with music and singers. In the New York Times reports on the success by saying that Boyle’s fans felt as though they were part of the album process:

Steve Barnett, chairman of Columbia Records, said only about 39,000 of Ms. Boyle’s total in the United States were sold through iTunes. To accommodate the large number of fans who wanted a physical product, for themselves or as holiday gifts, Columbia sold the CD through many nontraditional music retailers, like QVC and Walgreens. “The reason that this record really did what it did,” Mr. Barnett said.
