Weatherproof Institutes 'Coat$ For Clunkers' Charity Initiative

By Laura Feinstein on December 3, 2009

Taking a page from the Obama administration, Weatherproof is offering it’s own “stimulus” package this winter- Those who donate their slightly used coats to New York Cares Coat Drive will receive a $100 rebate coupon which can be redeemed at coatsforclunkers.com.

Though the company hopes to institute a similar practice nationwide, currently the only available time and location to donate your coats for cash is at Penn Station in NYC December 14-16. While this offer is in itself an interesting move both for Weatherproof and the NYC based charity, it poses an interesting proposition for fast-fashion and mid-range retailers throughout the country: Find a way to bring people into your store while also doing something good for people and the environment. Perhaps Weatherproof’s raising of the bar will indeed cause the “rippling effect” they are hoping for.

In the meantime, you can check back at coatsforclunkers.com for updates on the campaign, as well as the coats to be offered this season.
