Selected by Contemporary magazine as one of the ‘Top 50 Emerging Galleries from Around The World,” Whatiftheworld based in Capetown, South Africa is a gallery with a mission. Conceived as a small exhibition space by Justin Rhodes and Cameron Munro in 2005, Whatiftheworld provided a much-needed alternative for young and emerging artists to exhibit their work. Featured artists represent a new generation of multi-disciplinary South African artists who focus on such themes as identity, culture, and the urban experience.

The gallery intends to create an ongoing dialogue within both the local and global community as the voice of new talent. Also, exposing these artists has set the precedent for innovative shows of contemporary art in all media and created workshops and other collaborative opportunities for the art and design community. The gallery is committed to nurturing strong relationships with each artist and supporting their professional development. Whatiftheworld is the firm backbone behind the careers of several rising artists on the South African contemporary art scene.
