Apple’s iPad: A New Category Of Device

By Dan Gould on January 27, 2010

Apple has finally released details about the mythic tablet computer, and at first glance it looks quite impressive.

Named the iPad, the device is positioned in between a phone and a laptop, designed to accomplish key tasks (web browsing, email, videos, music, games) better than both. This positioning of the iPad as a kind of casual computer, or robust mobile device creates an interesting new frame for developers and users.

Early impressions around the web are positive, and the features and navigation shown off today look useful and easy to use.

(we’ll update with additional thoughts and details later on)
