Merci x Veja: Organic Shoes For Charity

As illustrated by the H & M debacle of last week, adding a “green” collection without the proper business practices can often do more harm than good to the image of a company. That’s why it is so refreshing to read about organic shoe line Veja‘s upcoming collaboration with Parisian concept store Merci.

Merci is the first “Charity Store” in France, where 100% of their profits will go to non-profit support, giving customers who would normally buy luxury goods  the chance to also give to a worthy cause in the process. The collaboration will be released this February, and will feature an exclusive trainer made with organic cotton and wild Amazonian rubber.

In addition, the South American company backs up their claims of sustainability through practical methods like:

replacing traditional cotton by organic cotton…supporting wild latex production in Amazonia to fight against deforestation… using ecological leather instead of chrome tanned leather…and by numerous small actions that could create a huge difference.

Merci
