No Bulk: TopUp Collapsible Bike Helmet

Industrial and Interaction Designer Adrien Guerin has released an interesting prototype of a collapsible helmet.  Introducing comfort and ‘urban aestheitc’ into helmet design, Guerin hopes the ‘TopUp’ prototype will encourage reluctant cyclists into wearing head protection.  It’s not clear how effective the textile helmet is with protecting the head, but the design is not intended to entirely replace the bike helmet.  Instead, the TopUp is designed for short, occasional bike trips, like that of the Velib bike swapping service in Paris.

Guerin states;

“…it is always better to have a small protection than anything!”
