Rising Above The Fray: Pedestrian Skyways In Mumbai

By Dan Gould on January 26, 2010

Fast Company reports that an innovative solution to the extreme congestion in Mumbai is being rolled out. Bypassing the overcrowded sidewalks and roads, city planners have devised a system of skyways that allow pedestrians to travel along elevated paths, twenty feet above the fray. One has been completed, and the city plans on building a total of 49. The $300 million cost of the project will be offset by the sale of ad space along the bridges.
