The first eleven rows of Air New Zealand’s economy class will now contain 22 new “sky couches.” Added this past December,  these couches allow fliers to fully lay down together as the footrest can be brought up to enable the seats to become a flat couch. It’s a  perfect arrangement for parents flying with small children as well. In terms of payment, each couple pays for their own seat and then the 3rd seat is approximately half the price.

The first routes that offer “sky couches” to travelers will be between Auckland and Los Angeles in December 2010 and Auckland to London in April 2011.

Premium economy class is also getting an upgrade and will feature “space seats.” These are set 2 abreast, instead of 3, and are designed so that the centre aisle seats can angle together to allow couples to dine at a shared table.
