Brooklyn Brainery: Inexpensive Collaborative Learning

By Dan Gould on February 25, 2010

Heading into its second semester, Brooklyn Brainery is a decidedly different kind of educational institution that offers casual classes that are open to anyone.

Rather than opt for the traditional teacher-student model, the school offers collaborative classes where everyone can contribute to the body of knowledge shared during class time. A class leader with a general knowledge of the subject matter is there to keep things on track, but otherwise, the whole group becomes both teacher and student.

Each class is only $25, and meets for four sessions. Courses offered this semester include: Meat, Applied Meteorology, Introduction to Gardening, Modern Poetry, Paper Arts and Beauty School Dropout.
