Reflections On A Life In Fashion: Alexander McQueen

Reflections On A Life In Fashion: Alexander McQueen

It wasn't the just the clothes that inspired and intrigued us, it was the whole deep dark perfectly presented package.

It wasn’t the just the clothes that inspired and intrigued us, it was the whole deep dark perfectly presented package.  His life story, his nihilistic viewpoint and his constant flirtation with an alluring darker side which we loved gaining glimpses into.  In PSFK’s opinion he was the most fascinating fashion designer of our time.  He presented his graphically clear silhouettes through challenging and sometimes utterly horrific imagery. From the naked fat lady, tubes flowing out of her mouth reclining gracefully inside a mirrored box who appeared at the end of his ss01 show through to his AW09 show presented in a mortuary in the presence of a menagerie of stuffed animals.

From his shows to his clothes through to his first store on Bond Street with not a right angle to be found we’ve loved seeing inside his mind and witnessing his influence spread beyond the catwalk into our lives.  We’ve loved his collaboration with Puma, his outfits for Bjork and his shy celebrity  We thought he’d found perfect way to for a luxury brand dynasty to be born and hope that PPR feel that he’s grown strong enough roots for the Alexander McQueen brand to continue and that they find themselves a strong, broad shouldered designer to take forward and re-interpret Lees vision of the world.
