Jinni: The First Mood Based Search Engine

Jinni: The First Mood Based Search Engine

By Aziz Ali on March 8, 2010

Jinni is a taste engine that gives you search results based on your personal preferences and mood. Thus users don’t search for a specific item, but by indicating what they like. The first of its kind, the engine is powered by The Movie Genome and capitalizes on users looking for movie and TV show recommendations and suggestions.

Comparing Jinni to other popular search engines, it prioritizes subjectivity over objectivity in delivering results to users. It is clearly a reaction to the automated, but highly efficient and scalable ‘keyword-focused’ search engines, which might capture a user’s interests and motivations, but they are not built to deliver results based on the searcher’s mood and preferences per se. Furthermore, Jinni is a unique platform for movie buffs, enabling users to search by time period, awards won, and plot.
