Multitouch Game Interface Simulates Solar Energy Infrastructures

By Kyle Studstill on March 1, 2010

The Strukt team of interaction designers has developed an installation for the Schlossmuseum Linz, a museum in Upper Austria. The multi-touch interface educates visitors on the challenges of building a solar energy infrastructure, providing a game-like simulation for placing solar panels throughout a map of Upper Austria using provided information about the sun’s altitude and other conditions. As users are shown how much energy their configuration generates over a year’s time, they are encouraged to build a better system for a higher score.
