Neuromarketing: What Sounds Make Our Brain Pay Attention?

Neuromarketing: What Sounds Make Our Brain Pay Attention?

By Dan Gould on March 2, 2010

A study by Buyology Inc. and Elias Arts has revealed some interesting insights into what sounds make our brains light up the most.

Fifty volunteers were exposed to a number of sounds, including samples from the natural world, technology and advertising. Their galvanic, pupil, and brainwave responses were measured to determine which sounds generated the strongest reaction.

The top five sounds of both branded and unbranded content were:

1. Baby giggle
2. Intel
3. Vibrating phone
4. ATM / cash register
5. National Geographic

It’s a revealing testament to where our brains are at in this monument in time, and how conditioned we’ve become to the man-made sounds that surround us.
