Rika Magazine: A Model Economy

Rika Magazine: A Model Economy

By Laura Feinstein on March 12, 2010

Joining the ranks of Acne, Scandinavian bag brand Rika has decided to launch a mini-magazine this month on French e-tailer Colette’s website. The magazine will be sold with five different covers and featuring five different models : Daisy Lowe by Liz Collins, Liberty Ross and Josephine de la Baume by Helena Christensen, Louise Mast by Blaise Reutersward, Christina Kruse by Marc Home and Ania Chorabik by Thomas Klementsson. Much like in Interview magazine, this will be creatives (models) exploring similar creatives through the lens of fashion photography.

What’s especially interesting is that the creator of Rika is a model herself. Cutting her teeth as a fashion and interiors stylist for prestigious magazines such as Casa Vogue and ELLE Decoration, stylist-turned-designer Ulrika Lundgren initially started her label in 2005, which she describes as a “bit rock’n'roll mixed with romantic vintage and the clean Scandinavian aesthetic the designer grew up with.” Currently the line has been in hot demand both on Colette as well as fellow hipster e-commerce website La Garconne. In short, this new magazine is shot, edited, and features models as well as being the brain-child of a catwalker. This is exciting because it offers hope for those who would like to stay in the fashion industry once they have passed their modeling prime by taking a new route behind the lens, in the showroom, and the publication headquarters. Just as the aging actress hopes to someday direct, perhaps the new model dream will be to edit?
