Starbucks has teamed up with Foursquare for testing its customer rewards program.
Starbucks is using Foursquare, the location based social network, to offer customer rewards. People who frequent Starbucks and use Foursquare to check in at retail locations will earn customer rewards; five checkins will earn them a barista badge. There are no financial rewards currently, while Starbucks is still thinking on how to reward frequent visitors.
The New York Times Bits Blog reports on what Chris Bruzzo, vice president for brand, content and online at Starbucks has to say about their association with Foursquare:
Starbucks plans to use Foursquare data less for business intelligence and more for getting feedback about what customers like and do not like. We hope to use Foursquare to provide even more meaningful prizes, like invitations to special events, photo sharing or online reputation scores.
This teaming up with Starbucks may potentially provide a huge push to Foursquare too, allowing them to reach a mainstream audience.
