US Library Of Congress To Acquire Twitter’s Entire Archive

By Naresh Kumar on April 23, 2010

The U.S. Library of Congress has announced that it will be acquiring the entire archive of Twitter messages, since Twitter’s inception in March 2006. The announcement came via its official Twitter account and further details will be put up later through a press release.

While the Library Of Congress has not yet fully disclosed what it intends to do with such a massive number of tweets, it could possibly use them to discover patterns of social interaction. Matt Raymond from the The Library’s official blog says in the blog post:

Expect to see an emphasis on the scholarly and research implications of the acquisition. I’m no Ph.D., but it boggles my mind to think what we might be able to learn about ourselves and the world around us from this wealth of data. And I’m certain we’ll learn things that none of us now can even possibly conceive.

Twitter, in its official blog, confirmed the news.
