The city of Berlin employed an interesting method to analyze traffic patterns on its roads.

Project Farbenmeer is a public art project aimed at visually tracking Berlin’s traffic. Volunteers spilled gallons of water-based paint on a busy car crossing, which was then distributed all over the square courtesy of the cars plying on that road. Different colors were used for different directions to mark traffic patterns.
