A new car navigation system maps out driving routes based on speed, distance and eco-friendliness.
Ford is developing a new feature in its map-based navigation system, MyFord Touch which will give drivers 3 route options: the fastest route, the shortest route and the eco-route. Cars with this new feature, to be launched this summer in the 2011 Ford Edge, and will be able to access real-time traffic information from the satellite radio network, Sirius, and then plot the greenest route to their destinations, avoiding gridlocked roads. Ford said that the Eco-Route yielded up to 15 percent fuel economy improvements in its testing.
