Levi Strauss Aims To Make The Clothesline Cool Again

By Dan Gould on May 21, 2010

Levi Strauss has launched the Care Air Design Challenge. It’s a contest that is looking for the most innovative and effective method to dry clothing.

Although, in many areas of the world, the practice has fallen out of favor, Triple Pundit points out the tremendous energy savings that line drying offers:

  • The average household uses 6% of its energy from operating clothes dryers
  • Just one pair of jeans consumers as much energy as powering a computer for over 550 hours.
  • About 50% of a clothing item’s climate-change impact occurs after its purchase by a consumer.

The contest begins June 1st and runs through the end of July.
