With its houses in the sky, the Netherlands possibly presented probably the most whimsical pavilion of the Shanghai Expo. Under the theme of ‘Happy Street’, the European country built 20 elevated houses lining a 400 meter pedestrian street on a figure of eight loop. The pavilion aimed to symbolize an ideal city, exhibiting the rational planning of modern urban life as well as Dutch innovations in space, energy and water conservation.
