Game Reconstructs The World, One Photo At A Time

PhotoCity is a new game where users can create 3D models out of pictures that they take of the places around them such as buildings and schools. Every picture they upload adds 3D points to the model to raise their score to virtually own the buildings they captured with their camera. By playing PhotoCity, gamers also contribute to the ultimate aim of the game’s creators; to develop a large-scale 3D reconstruction of the entire world.

The game is a collaboration between University of Washington’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Cornell Department of Computer Science and has received grants from Intel and Google.
