Australia’s First Female Prime Minister

Today Australia made leadership history with Julia Gillard taking over as the country’s first ever female leader.

On January 20, 2009 the United States of America saw Barack Obama become their first ever African American president.  Today Australia also made leadership history with Julia Gillard taking over as the country’s first ever female Prime Minister.  Replacing Kevin Rudd following a dive in opinion polls and a political party coup, Gillard may only have a short rule, with a federal election set to be announced within the next few months.
