(Pics) The Complete Genesis Of A Brand: Maison Martin Margiela ‘20′ Hits London
If you fancy fashion and happen to be in the UK this season, be sure to drop by Maison Martin Margiela’s “20 The Exhibition”, now installed at London’s Somerset House (and open until September 5th, 2010). Formerly housed at the MoMu in Antwerp, as well as Munich’s Haus der Kunst, this twenty year retrospective is complete with an extensive archive of the house’s history- told through artifacts, installations, photography and video. On an interesting side note, the exhibition has been co-curated by Belgian scenographer Bob Verhelst.
Exploring the Margiela story through a series of meticulously curated installations, the exhibition details the complete genesis of the brand, from show invitations and footage to artisanal garments, private wardrobes, the incognito and various trompe l’oeil visual concepts, and a rare look at the production and destruction processes. The exhibit will also feature the various special projects credited to the house over the years. In addition, the Maison Martin Margiela fragrance ‘Untitled’ is a new addition to the London edition, featured alongside the classic Stockman mannequins.
The exhibition runs from 3 June – 5 September 2010 | Somerset House Embankment Galleries, Stand, London, WC2R 1LA
