Robot Lifeguard Comes To California’s Seashore

By Aziz Ali on June 28, 2010

Hydronalix, a company that works to create fully automated marine-bots, revealed a remote controlled version of their innovation. The floating robot has an outstanding 80 pound buoyancy and can withstand swimming in the most dramatic weather conditions, patroling the water by scanning the area using sonar.

The robot, which was given the name E.M.I.L.Y. (for Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard), is capable of swimming up to 40-miles an hour and can be a great partner for any lifeguard or rescue team. Emily is currently being used on the shores of Malibu California, and Hydronalix is planning to send more replicas of the bot to guard 25 extra beaches.
