Is the site looking to evolve from social network to content publisher?
This recent call for submissions on Facebook got us thinking – is the social media site looking to enter the content publishing business? Sure, Facebook currently aggregates content – but most if not all of it is submitted or shared by users, many of whom are “liking” it from other media or content properties. Is Facebook evaluating how to use its audience to create content that will originate from itself – and not from brands or individuals?
It will be interesting to see what this beta ultimately yields in terms of product/content – and if it provides one answer to how Facebook can remain relevant and valuable – by generating original content that can only be found on Facebook.
