This year marks the sixth edition of ‘Denim’ by Première Vision, which moved to its newest home within the industrial architecture of the La Halle Freyssinet in Paris. The event (held this past June), manages to bring together various professionals from all walks of life working within denim related industries. In addition to leading fibre producers, weavers, manufacturing, finishing and dyeing specialists, launderers and accessory manufacturers, more than 68 exhibitors from 17 countries participated in the spring event. Showcased were cutting-edge technologies, qualities and finishes, and the latest in colors and trims. As a special treat, this spring/summer’s event held the first ‘Future Denim Designers Award’, where ‘Denim’ by Première Vision asked final-year students from fashion and design school Central Saint Martins’ menswear degree course to answer: how do emerging designers imagine the jeans of the future?

The six competitors (Gabriella Massey, Phillip Patterson, Yunjoo Cho, Nicolas Smith, Adam Thomson, and Dominic Tsai) were chosen to defend their creations to some of the most illustrious personalities in the denim world today, including: Adriano Goldschmeid, Alberto Candiani (general manager of TRC Candiani), Faith Konukoglu (CEO for denim of Sanko Textiles-ISKO™),  Giovanni Petrin, Neil Bell (sourcing director, Levi’s), Pascaline Wilhelm, (fashion director, Première Vision), and Trevor Harrison (Pepe Jeans). The victor, Gabriella Massey, won with her garments which featured five-pocket ultra-bleached jeans, artful rips and tears, subtly frayed double collars, and other ultra modern embellishments.

If you’re curious about the newest trends in denim, the next meeting of the jeans sector takes place at Première Vision, from September 14th – 16th, 2010 at the Atelier Denim and at  La Halle Freyssinet for the next edition of ‘Denim’ by Première Vision on December 1st and 2nd.
