ToneCheck: An Emotional Spell Check For Your Emails

By Naresh Kumar on July 21, 2010

Ever wondered why your seemingly harmless email has your friends, colleagues or clients fuming at you? The answer: wrong interpretation. One of the problems with text based communications such as email is lack of context, something which can result in conveying unintended emotion or tone, leading to misunderstanding between the sender and the receiver.

In a bid to avoid such situations, a Canadian company Lymbix has developed an email plugin called ToneCheck that can review the content of your email and evaluate words and phrases against 8 primary emotions, allowing users to edit the inappropriate language and adjust the overall tone before hitting the send button. ToneCheck is a free download and is only available for Outlook at the moment.
