A rule-based system claims to help users identify possible crimes before they are committed
Vancouver-based Provident Security has developed a system that uses rule-based video analytics that turn any camera’s video feed into an intelligent motion detection system. The company says that by applying rules to the detection system, a home or business owner can identify possible crimes before they are committed, thus creating proactive video surveillance.

But the implications for this technology go beyond security measures. Usability specialists and those using video ethnography for research and analysis could automate certain tasks that would otherwise take hours to do, thus speeding up the analysis process.
