Mazda Shinari Concept First To Use New Kodo Design Language

By Dave Pinter on August 31, 2010

Ahead of the debut at that this year’s Paris Auto Show, Autoblog got a sneak peek of a Mazda concept car which debuts the new brand design language called ‘Kodo’ which translates roughly to “soul of motion.”. The Shinair Concept is in essence the styling blueprint for every Mazda vehicle the company will produce for the next few years. So Mazda will likely be keen to track the public reaction when this vehicle goes on display.

The Shinari meaning “resistance to being bent,” is a sleek 4-door sedan. The exterior design features smooth surfaces that terminate in sharp edges. The detailing on the exterior features aluminum accent pieces that twist to form vents and light shrouds.

The sophisticated interior features controls that seem appear to flow along the surfaces. There’s a sense of speed and performance in the design of the interior that well reflects Mazda’s heritage in a modern way.

We agree with Autoblog that the design feels very cohesive and proper for Mazda. While the concept is forward looking, there isn’t anything obviously crazy about it that would make production difficult. In the end though the real success of ‘Kodo’ will have to be seen when other models bearing the new design language emerge.
